Metro Court’s Specialty Court Judges and Probation staff were provided in-depth training on Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) by Dr. Ruth Potee in June. The training was facilitated by the National Center for State Courts (NCSC).
Dr. Potee, a board certified Addiction Medicine physician and the Medical Director for Franklin County House of Corrections in Greenfield, MA., discussed the physiology of addiction, adolescent brain development and common misconceptions of MAT. She also addressed the philosophy that MAT is substituting one addiction for another. Judges and staff were able to engage in candid discussion with Dr. Potee and present scenarios for feedback.
